As
per Punjab Development Statistics, 2000, there are 377 broiler and
41 layer poultry farms in the district having rearing capacity of
5304 and 587 thousand birds respectively. There are also 4 breeding
farms having rearing capacity of 146 thousand birds

Availability
of Hides / Skins and Slaughter House Wastes.

As
per Punjab Development Statistics, 2000, 1,10,000 animals were
slaughtered in recognized / un-recognized slaughter houses in the
district during the year 1999–2000, which is a fair estimate of the
availability of hides and skins in the district. The availability of
slaughter house by – products is estimated as under :-
